March 3, 2005

According to SOADOnline.net, SYSTEM OF A DOWN are rumored to be planning a "Souls 2005" benefit concert on April 24 at the Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

The concert will raise awareness of the World War I-era mass murders of Armenians by Turkey's Ottoman Empire, which Turkey and several other nations, including the U.S., refuse to recognize as genocide.

Members of SYSTEM OF A DOWNSerj Tankian (vocals),Daron Malakian (guitars),Shavo Odadjian (bass),and John Dolmayan (drums) — are all of Armenian descent, and have been very active in supporting this cause for years. "Souls 2004", which took place on April 24, 2004 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, was among the band's most recent efforts to raise awareness of the Armenian Genocide and other global abuses of human rights.

"Mesmerize", the first half of SYSTEM OF A DOWN's new double album, "Mesmerize/Hypnotize", is scheduled for release on May 17. "Hypnotize" is due out sometime this fall.
